London International Mime Festival 2013
If you are looking for something a bit different this January, the London International Mime Festival could be the perfect event for you. Running from 10th-27th January in several locations across the city, London will host fifteen productions from across the globe.
The festival has taken place every year since 1977, bringing performances of art-circus, illusion, puppetry, dark clown theatre and more to visitors. This year, the acts include shows from Australia, Belgium, China, France, Germany, Israel, Italy, Russia and Switzerland, alongside some of Britain’s top visual performers.
Performances will include Popcorn Machine; a cabaret of chaos, evangelical puppet show, The Cardinals; the acrobatic Leo and Italian circus-theatre artist Simone Riccio. Full details of all events and ticketing information can be found on the festival website.
Alongside the performances, the festival will host a number of interactive workshops for those wishing to learn more about the acts involved. These workshops range from The Pleasure of Juggling, teaching attendees to juggle between one and three objects for £35, to the ten-day clown workshop, How To Be A Stupid, which is aimed at those seriously interested in the subject and priced accordingly at £597. If you would like to learn more about your favourite performance but do not want to attend a full workshop, there will be a number of sessions where the artists can be asked about their work. These sessions tend to start within five minutes of a performance’s finish and last for around half an hour each. Dates and times for the sessions are listed online so you can choose performances accordingly.
