Happy Jelly Bean Day everyone

A week in the life of some compelling, amusing and just plain odd holidays.

So tell me, what were you doing on Tweed Day? Any plans for Draw a Picture of a Bird Day?
Yes, they do exist. Sadly you have missed the tweed celebrations, however, there are plenty more weird and exciting days to come. More bad news – the majority aren’t recognised so I doubt if you can wangle a day’s leave to celebrate Lumpy Rug Day next month but hey, it might be worth a try!

Monday April 16th
Sick of chocolate eggs already? Have no fear it’s National Eggs Benedict Day! Ditch the cocoa variety and indulge in hollandaise sauce and runny yolks: on toast, on a bed of mash or even on a plate they are simply delicious. The origin of this monumental day is unknown, however it is known that this popular dish has been around since 1893 when it was created by Mrs LeGrand Benedict. Cracking!

Tuesday April 17th

Blah, Blah, Blah Day. Yes there is such a day. Have you a list of jobs that you are meaning to get on top of, perhaps your loved ones have been nagging you to finally finish the shelf or fix the leaky tap? Today is the day which has been set aside to help you in your task. So basically, you have no excuses now as there is a national day devoted to all things menial (or cheat and we can do it for you! ) This is a copyrighted holiday, courtesy of  Wellcat

Wednesday April 18th

Work today? Keep your jammies on and engage in National Wear Your Pyjamas to Work Day. Flannelette, cotton or silk, as long as they aren’t too skimpy then feel free to wear them into the office and go about your normal day. May I suggest you take lunch to work on this day – unless you don’t mind the odd looks in the high street cafe (oh and a photo for us too). An American tradition, this day always falls on the day after taxes are due.

Thursday April 19th

Venture forth armed with your mouthwash and toothbrushes for today we will be celebrating National Garlic Day. Garlic has been used medicinally for thousands of years including fighting the build-up of plaque, colds and flu and to banish toothache, warts and acne. How will you be celebrating this joyous day?

 Friday April 20th
At last, a day when its ok to pretend to be someone else. Embrace these 24 hours people, as its a long year ahead! Look Alike Day was created I assume as a bit of fun as I can’t really see any other point to be honest. A day for impersonators, look-alikes and performers everywhere. Dress up as someone famous or just the man from across the road (not advised) and be someone else for a day. Moving swiftly on..

Saturday April 21st
Celebrated in honour of Friedrich Froebel, who opened his first Kindergarten (or nursery) in Germany in 1837, this is National Kindergarten Day. Re-live some of your old memories and take a trip back to your old playschool or group.

Sunday April 22nd
Hmm, gourmet jelly beans..If you haven’t tried a Margarita or Chocolate Pudding flavour jelly bean, frankly you haven’t lived. These delightful little sweets are just about the best that you can get and if they are good enough for President Ronald Reagan then they are good enough for me. Fill your pockets today, as it’s a recognised (well ok, not quite) day, and, therefore, it’s allowed. Yes, National Jelly Bean Day has arrived!

Have a good week celebrating these holidays, get the family involved and have some fun. I am so looking forward to next month when it’s Clean Up Your Room Day, that’s on May the 10th for any young disbelievers (with messy bedrooms).
