National Shed Week 2012
To most of us, a shed is a small building that sits in our back garden. Although it serves an important function in storing garden tools, paint and other random items which have no place to go in the house, it’s probably not something that you think about an awful lot. It’s likely that you’ll be quite surprised to learn that there is a National Shed Week but rest assured it’s a lot more interesting than you may think!
Some people put an impressive amount of time and energy into creating the perfect outhouse. National Shed Week celebrates these unusual structures, which come in a variety of guises; a Tardis, a shed built to recreate Stonehenge and several bars feature in the shortlist for the award of Shed of the Year.
National Shed Week 2012 will begin on 2nd July and run until 8th July. The winning Shed of the Year will be announced at some point during this week, once the team of expert judges have made their decision. This year’s judging panel is made up of Sarah Beeny, Neil Gaiman, Alex from Shedworking, the 2011 winner Jon Earl and the voice behind Reader’s Sheds, Uncle Wilco. The sheds which have made it to the final are a far cry from your common or garden outbuilding purchased from the local garden centre! There are some stunning sheds dotted around the UK. From normal sheds to home offices and solar sheds to garden bars, here are the best of the best.
