Run to the Beat

BY cushion the impact

The 28th October will see an energetic group of runners taking to the streets of London as they aim to complete the Run to the Beat half-marathon. While it’s certainly not the only big run to take place in the city, it is a half-marathon with a difference.

When participating runners and their supporters gather at the O2 Arena prior to the start of the half-marathon, they will be treated to a star-studded line-up of live music. The main stage, situated right beside the starting line, and numerous other smaller stages dotted around the route will host performances from DJ Fresh, Reggie Yates, Nihal and others over the course of the day.

The entertainment for the day is organised in collaboration with City Showcase, a not-for-profit organisation which has helped to launch the careers of the likes of Amy Winehouse, Keane, N-Dubz and Newton Faulkner.  The organisation will be working as hard as ever to make sure that the estimated 18,500 runners are entertained for their entire journey around the Docklands.

The fifth annual Nike+ Run to the Beat half-marathon will start at the O2 Arena at 9.45am on Sunday 28th October. Participants will follow the course around the Greenwich Peninsula, before finishing back at the O2 arena at the end of the 13 miles. Details of the exact route are not available as yet but will be published on the event website shortly.

As mentioned earlier, there will be plenty of musical entertainment dotted around the route. The full line-up includes DJ Fresh,  Reggie Yates, Bobby Friction, Boy Cloud Kid, Dan Price, DJ Priors and Rail, DJ Scar, DJ Trol, Drumline, Edit/Select, HUTCH, Jaymo & Andy George, Jean Genie, Nihal, Panjabi Hit Squad, Ben Osborne, Ras Kwame, Rhythms of the City, Rollz, Steven Howells and The Other Tribe DJs. The host for the event will be Yemi Sawyerr.

While registration for the event is now full, there are still some charity places available. Should you wish to run on behalf of a charity, a full list of those seeking sponsors can be found on the Run to the Beat website. Even if you don’t get (or want!) a place in the run itself, why not go along to enjoy the music and cheer on the runners?
