Hosting a Business Lunch in London

BY cushion the impact

London sees more than its fair share of business lunches each day, so it comes as no surprise to find that there are many restaurants perfectly suited for such an occasion. When you’re hosting a business lunch, chances are you need to impress a client, or your boss, so choosing the ideal location is important. Here are a few venues which are guaranteed to go down well.

Arbutus

The Soho location of Arbutus makes it a popular choice amongst media types, but it’s more than the location that keeps them coming back.  The décor is minimalist, while the menu is certainly not; Arbutus is not a restaurant for those afraid to experiment.  The menu changes each day with lunchtime offering delights such as potato soup with poached organic egg, buckwheat and parsley, salads containing green beans, white peaches and almonds and braver items such as pig trotters and tripe.  The friendly service is a definite plus. A two course lunch at Arbutus costs £17.95.

Greenhouse

If a unique experience is what you’re after and budget is not an issue, Greenhouse is well worth a look. A tree-lined pathway to the entrance is just the beginning; a menu offering Cornish crab with mint jelly, Granny Smith apple, Cauliflower and curry and Vendee Pigeon cooked with almond crumble, candied leg, Soubeyranes spices and chickpeas is waiting for you at the other side of the door.  Service is, of course, carried out to a very high standard. A set lunch menu is available for £29 per person, while dining from the A la Carte menu can cost approximately £100 each. An extensive wine menu is also available.

Harwood Arms

While a first glance may suggest that the Harwood Arms is a gastro-pub, further investigation will reveal that it is, in fact, a very popular restaurant where bookings must be made well in advance.  However, if simple yet delicious British food at an affordable price is your cup of tea, making that booking could be a very wise decision. Cornish sea bass, smoked haddock and English beef have all claimed a place on the menu, alongside traditional desserts such as vanilla rice pudding and Eton Mess.  Lunch at the Harwood Arms costs around £24 per person.

Corner of Walham Grove and Farm Lane, London, SW6 1QP        Telephone: 020 7386 1847

Benares Restaurant & Bar

Famed for matching wines to their delicious Indian food, Benares Restaurant & Bar offers a suitably impressive lunch with a bit of a kick! Wines will be chosen specially to bring out the best in your food, which is fantastic even without the help. A set menu is available, with starters including fish kebab, chicken tikka pie and spiced autumn vegetable filo parcel; mains including braised lamb neck fillet or cottage cheese and apricot kofta and desserts such as kulfi and sorbets. A three course set menu costs £35 with a duo of pairing wines for £16.
