50 Shades of Green – Celebrating St Patrick’s Day in London
Whether you have emigrated from Ireland, have Irish roots or just grab any opportunity for a bit of craic, there is plenty going on in London to mark St Patrick’s Day. Don your green clothes, paint a tricolour on your face, pin your shamrock on your jacket and take yourself off to one of these popular events.
As with many other cities around the world, the main St Patrick’s Day event in London is the parade. All 32 Irish counties will be represented amongst the marching bands, dancers and assorted entertainers who will set off from Piccadilly at noon on 17th March. Families are invited to turn up and join in with the family section of the parade, which will follow a route along Regents Street and Pall Mall before finishing in Trafalgar Square. The party will continue at Trafalgar Square until 6pm, with a food market, children’s area and the London Irish Comedy Festival Marquee.
Greenwich Dance will host a Ceilidh on Saturday 16th March in their Borough Hall venue. Experts and novices alike are invited to the dance, where live music will be provided by the Fiddlestix Ceilidh Band. Tickets are now available, priced at £8 each or £6 for concessions.

Vinopolis’ resident expert, Tom Forrest, will be hosting an Irish Whiskey Masterclass in celebration of the patron saint of the Emerald Isle. Visitors can taste six Irish whiskeys and learn how different distillation methods affect the flavour and style of the drink. The masterclass will take place on 16th March, at a cost of £50 per person. Vinopolis would like to assure all attendees that the masterclass will finish in plenty of time for Ireland’s rugby match!

The set market lunch menu is priced at £29 for three courses. A special St Patrick’s Day Sunday lunch will also be served on the day itself, accompanied by live Irish music, stout on tap and Irish hospitality. A three course Sunday lunch will cost from £27.
