The 67th Cannes Film Festival is starting today and, over the next 11 days, those who are lucky enough to be in attendance and those watching the highlights at home will be treated to a fantastic, star-packed itinerary.
From the time the festival opens with Nicole Kidman’s Grace of Monaco, to the moment the yet to be announced closing screening ends, the Cannes Film Festival will, as usual, be the ultimate movie event of the year.
18 films will be competing for the Palme d’Or, the most coveted prize in world cinema, with productions from Martin Scorsese, David Lynch, Ken Loach and Michael Haneke named on the shortlist. The films which are competing for the prize are:

- Goodbye to Language – Jean-Luc Godard
- The Homesman – Tommy Lee Jones
- Jimmy’s Hall – Ken Loach
- La Meraviglie – Alice Rohrwacher
- Leviathan – Andrey Zvyagintsev
- Maps to the Stars – David Cronenberg
- Mommy – Xavier Dolan
- Mr Turner – Mike Leigh
- Saint Laurent – Bertrand Bonello
- The Search – Michel Hazanavicius
- Sils Maria – Olivier Assayas
- Still the Water – Naomi Kawase
- Timbuktu – Abderrahmane Sissako
- Two Days, One Night – Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne
- Wild Tales – Damien Szifron
- Winter Sleep – Nuri Bilge Ceylan
Of course, the festival isn’t all about the Palme d’Or. There will be plenty of screenings of a wide range of films, including some midnight screenings, and the amazing Cannes Classics 2014, with special guest Sophia Loren.
