Weird and Wonderful Ways to Get in Shape

Hands up if you ate too much over Easter. We can’t be alone in this, can we? The recent appearance of the sun and some halfway decent weather has us in a bit of a panic about the impending summer. We’re absolutely not ones to judge on body shape but we would like to make a bit of an effort, even if it is only to avoid having to be winched out of the house…

Joking aside, everyone knows that regular exercise is essential for both physical and mental health and wellbeing, so we’ve been looking into workout options that are more appealing than the gym.

London Longsword Academy

Offering a range of medieval and modern martial arts, the London Longsword Academy is definitely very different to the average gyms, yoga classes and running sessions. The Academy welcomes people of all ages and levels of experience to their classes about longswords, bucklers, rapiers, daggers and more. Perfect timing for the latest season of Game of Thrones too!

SUP Yoga 

Rather than lying on a mat indoors, participants of this variety of yoga take a paddleboard out onto the water before using it as a yoga mat while still out on the water. The constant body adjustments to the water’s movement makes it an excellent core workout. SUP Yoga is operated by Active 360 at Paddington Basin.

ZUU 

This class, offered at Virgin Active centres, involves channelling your inner beast and moving in a primal manner. No, really. ZUU is a 20 minute workout which burns 300 calories through a combination of squats, lunges, pushing, pulling and all manner of low impact, high intensity moves. What’s more, it promises to be fun too!
