Realistic time management

BY Sue Williamson

You know we love providing time management and productivity help. Sometimes it’s as easy as publishing top tips on a blog such as this, others require some one-to-one assistance (increase your work-life balance and overall happiness, by getting in touch to find out how we can help you.)

In the meantime, here are some time management-related fibs you need to stop telling yourself.

Common time management misconceptions

This blog relates to one core habit – being unrealistic about the amount of time a task will take. The following phrases should be removed from your vocabulary, at least when it comes to your working day.

Just a minute

Give me a moment

I’ll just be a second

Why?

Because nothing ever takes just a moment/minute/second/insert short period of time. Give yourself, and others, a realistic timeframe and you are far more likely to stick to it.

Similarly, aim to banish phrases such as “I’ll have it with you by the end of the day”, unless you can 100% guarantee that you can deliver that day.

Don’t be vague, don’t make unrealistic promises, be truthful to yourself.

Respecting your own time is the first step towards managing it efficiently.
