New London Restaurants
With only six weeks to go before Christmas (sorry!), the party season is just around the corner and we will all be looking for somewhere fantastic to celebrate. Luckily for those of us looking for something new, there are plenty of restaurants due to open in London very soon.
The GrEat British
The GrEat British, an all-day restaurant celebrating the best of traditional and adapted British food, opened in Mayfair in late October. Ingredients are sourced from Britain where possible and the menu includes favourites such as Full English breakfast, kippers, wood pigeon, duck, doorstep sandwiches and Bakewell tarts. Perhaps surprisingly, the wine list at the GrEat British features only British wines. The restaurant doesn’t have a website yet but, by all accounts, it’s well worth a visit.

The Hawksmoor steak restaurants in Spitalfields, Guildhall and Seven Dials have been the talk of London (and Twitter) for quite some time now. This new branch in Air Street reveals a new side to the Hawksmoor experience – seafood! The massive 230-seat restaurant has opened just off Regent Street, making it ideal for a post-Christmas shopping treat. As well as the renowned Hawksmoor steaks, the menu at Air Street includes an extensive selection of seafood. While you’re there make sure to enjoy one of the legendary Hawksmoor cocktails and don’t forget the salted caramel rolo’s for dessert.

Flat Iron
Flat Iron’s pop-up restaurant above the Owl & Pussycat in Shoreditch proved so popular that the restaurant is set to open in a permanent location in Soho in early December. The menu will still feature just one cut of beef, the Flat Iron, but will be adapted to fit the transition from pop-up to permanent restaurant. The owner hasn’t revealed too many details as yet but we do know that a custom grill is being installed to let the popular dripping chips be made fresh on-site daily. The best beef from Ireland, Yorkshire and Cornwall teamed with a secret collaboration with mixologists, SoulShakers – what more could you want from a festive night out?

Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour
Opening on 26th November, this is far more than just another Chinese restaurant. Using the fresh ingredients from Chinatown, Opium Cocktail & Dim Sum Parlour aims to serve great cocktails and equally impressive food. Diners in this 19th century opium den inspired establishment can expect to have each and every cocktail served with a dramatic flourish in view of the open kitchens. The menu will change seasonally but sample dishes include Kung Fu Fizz, a parsnip puree and champagne delight served in a Chinese tea cup.

If British food using seasonal fare is what you’re after, the Newman Street Tavern could be just the ticket. Opening in November, the tavern will be serving British food, wine from small producers and a selection of local beers. As the menu is seasonal, it will change regularly but diners can expect dishes created using shellfish, properly hung game, free range chicken and quails and freshly-caught fish.

If you’ve been to Paris, Dubai or New York, you may well have visited Buddha-Bar before and those of us who haven’t had the pleasure will be able to experience it for ourselves in the new London restaurant. Pan-Asian cuisine and designer cocktails form the basis of the menu, which is served in a serene atmosphere complete with relaxing chill-out music. There are a number of menus available, each offering a different Asian cuisine. Sushi, tempura and maki all feature on the menu, which includes meat, fish and vegetarian options.
