There are some excellent new restaurants in London this March

It’s been a while since you heard from us about the plethora of outstanding new eateries popping up around London, but this month has brought such an excellent selection that we felt the need to share. Weird and wonderful is the perfect phrase to describe what’s been happening in the  restaurant scene over the past few weeks and here is a taster of what the city has in store.

The Viktor Wynd Museum of Curiosities Café & Bar

Let’s start with a venue that encompasses both the weird and the wonderful. The country’s only curiosity museum has opened in Hackney, offering such sights as Napoleon’s death mask, dodo bones and shrunken monkey heads to those looking for a day out with a difference. Once you’ve experienced the exhibitions, how about a burger made from zebra, camel, ostrich or kangaroo, accompanied by a Zombie or Bleeding Scot cocktail?

The Fourteenth Colonie

Social sharing and craft beer are order of the day at New York’s first crowd-funded restaurant as it expands its empire to open a fourteenth colonie in London. The thirteen US-based colonies have been a resounding success so far and the plan is to make the London branch just as unforgettable. The Fourteenth Colonie will offer a stage for local producers and creators, following a start-up menu featuring American classics.

Porridge Café

You didn’t imagine reading about a porridge café, but here we are with only positive things to report. The Porridge Café opened on 2nd March, serving a daily changing menu featuring only porridge and risotto. Who knew how versatile those two dishes could be? From blueberry & ginger on Mondays; roasted pepper, chorizo & chilli on Tuesdays; slow roasted chicken, leek & cream cheese on Wednesdays; apple, vanilla & hazelnut on Thursdays; beetroot, feta & poached egg on Fridays and kale, mushroom & pecorino at the weekend, even the staunchest porridge and risotto refuseniks are bound to find something to their taste (including those who go gluten free).
