3 Useful Organisation Skills for Better Time Management
If you have been reading our Twitter feed recently(@cushiontheimpac or @andreaosborne if you would like to follow us) you will know that Andrea has been busy creating an e-book, webinar and series of time management strategies to help you make better use of your time. In case you cannot wait for the big launch of our time management course on 10th July, this guide to organisation will give you a taster of what is in store.
Use a method which suits you
There are plenty of different ways to become more organised; which one you should choose depends on how you prefer to work.
If you are addicted to your smartphone or tablet and always online, make use of the cloud and all the synchronisation that allows. Dropbox or GDrive are both great for accessing your files and folders on the move.
More of a paper person? Try using a concertina folder, there are a variety of ways to label the sections. Perhaps Today, Tomorrow, This Week, Next Week and so on. Adding a section for each month and inserting reminders of each month’s events can also be very handy.
Embrace routine
Not all of us naturally follow a routine but teaching yourself how to adapt one can do wonders for your organisation and time management. Find a system that works for you, tweak it as required and stick to it. If the notion of a routine is new to your working style, start with baby steps so it doesn’t become a seemingly insurmountable task. Colour-coding is effective and simple enough to break you in gently.
Ditch post-it notes
Between telephone calls needing to be returned; reminders to attend meetings or pick up your dry-cleaning, your desk can quickly become coated in a swarm of post-its. Of course, some of these are likely to go astray or be missed completely. Rather than relying on these post-its for reminders, consider mounting a white board onto your wall and using it to jot down notes, reminders and even mind maps, if you use them.
Our online time management course, There Is Enough Time, will launch on 10th July 2013. Register now to secure your place on the course, which comprises four one-hour interactive workshops. The first four to register will receive a bonus of a 45-minute telephone call or Skype session with Andrea.
