4 Fantastic New London Restaurants

BY cushion the impact

We’ve had so much to tell you about recently that it’s been a while since we put together a round-up of the best new restaurants opening across London.  There are so many to choose from may have missed your new favourite please do let us know in the comments below. For now, here are our top four new London restaurants.

London House

The Gordon Ramsey Group recently added to its portfolio, opening London House in Battersea. London House is, in fact, a refurb rather than a new restaurant but being acquired by Ramsey appears to be working wonders for it.  The Battersea Square restaurant offers an elegantly classic yet cosy atmosphere where guests can enjoy the likes of Cartmel Valley venison haunch, agnotti of mushrooms or chocolate tart with Jerusalem artichoke ice cream and salted caramel. Happily for those of us who are partial to a cocktail or two, London House’s mixologists offer a fabulous selection of both classic and inventive concoctions.

Kaiseki by Kitchen Theory

Kitchen Theory’s experimental pop-ups have been undeniably popular to date and now they are back with another temporary restaurant: Kaiseki.  Hosted by House of Wolf in Islington, Kaiseki will open on selected dates throughout February and March, serving a nine-course multi-sensory, Japanese-inspired menu. The menu is subject to change but sample dishes include seaweed salad, a selection of tempura, sashimi with smoked dashi pearls and uruchimai squid ink risotto. With such a great reputation and a very limited run, you’ll need to book quickly if you plan to dine at Kaiseki.

House of Wolf, 181 Upper Street, London, N1 1RQ Telephone: 020 7288 1470

 Canvas

Plenty of restaurants offer tasting menus nowadays but we haven’t heard of one offering a create-your-own one yet. Rather, we hadn’t until we heard about Canvas. The brainchild of Michael Riemenschneider, Canvas is a 20-seater restaurant promising a unique experience to diners. Guests can choose from between 3 and 10 courses (1 or 2 courses are available at lunchtimes) or trust in Michael’s expertise in selecting a surprise selection containing the best seasonal ingredients. Sample courses currently include scallop, pig, chicken, veal, halibut, chocolate and apple dishes. Vegan and vegetarian courses are also available.

La Giaconda

The Giaconda Café on Denmark Street was a favourite with David Bowie and Marc Bolan and also had visits from The Kinks and The Clash back in the 60s and, to be perfectly honest, that’s enough information to make us want to try it! La Giaconda is now back and, despite serving food a million miles from the greasy spoon offerings of yesteryear and a lack of Bowie lounging at one of the tables, is definitely one to add to your list of must-visits. The menu changes regularly, with sample dishes currently including chicken breast with hickory and polenta, veal carpaccio, crisped pig’s trotters and rib of beef alongside a selection of cheeses and desserts.
