4 of the Best New London Restaurants – August 2013

While our blog has focused on pop-up bars and restaurants recently, more traditional restaurants have continued to open their doors around London. If you’re not a fan of the pop-up and street food trends, preferring to find a new permanent restaurant to add to your favourites, here are a handful of those ready and waiting for your patronage.

Fields Bar & Kitchen

Situated near the tennis courts in Lincoln’s Inn Fields, Fields Bar & Kitchen is perfect for grabbing a picnic for the park or enjoying a leisurely sit-down meal. Fresh salads, wood-fired pizza, lamb cutlets, steak sandwiches and more grace the mouth-watering menu at Fields. Of course, there is also an impressive drinks menu to go alongside it. If you find yourself at Holborn station early in the morning, walk the two or three minutes along to Fields Bar & Kitchen for some pancetta and potato hash, maple and almond granola, French toast or duck eggs to set you up for the day.

Notting Hill Kitchen

Although not officially opening until 1st September, Notting Hill Kitchen is currently running a soft launch until the end of August. If you are planning to visit Notting Hill to take in the sights and sounds of the carnival, why not pop along to the restaurant for some Spanish and Portuguese-inspired fare?  Chef Luis Buena has done a great job of creating the regularly-changing menu, which currently includes pork terrine with foie gras, slow-cooked egg with farinheira crumble, octopus salad and stuffed squid and prawns with polenta. Located just off Portobello Road, Notting Hill Kitchen is ideal for a bank holiday weekend meal.

Smokehouse

The newest kid on the Islington block, Smokehouse is a gastropub serving a selection of dishes created from the finest, fresh, seasonal ingredients. Far from the usual pie, chips and Sunday roasts you may expect from a pub, Smokehouse’s menu is packed full of unique, quirky taste combinations. Lobster and spring onion frittata, peppered ox cheek with cauliflower cheese and gravy and racks of ribs straight out of the smoker are just a few of the tasty dishes on offer.  Aside from the food, we are willing to bet you’ll have some fun working your way through the beer board…

Casse-Croûte

If you are looking for an intimate restaurant in Central London, this 20-seater French village-style establishment could be just the ticket. The Bermondsey Street restaurant is a stone’s throw from London Bridge and has definitely found a niche in that restaurant-rich area. The menu evolves constantly but recent dishes have included filet steak tartare, guinea fowl, slow-cooked meat and Pollock with artichokes. Advance booking is recommended.
