Eating Out With a Difference – Quirky London Restaurants

There is no shortage of great restaurants in London; whatever your tastes and budget, there will be plenty of options available to you. From fast food and street food to Michelin starred luxury, London has it all. If you are starting to feel like even that isn’t enough for you, try one of these slightly unusual eateries.

Bunga Bunga

Quirky is what you want and quirky is certainly what you will get in Bunga Bunga. Enter the Battersea restaurant through an Italian phone box and marvel at the tongue-in-cheek tributes to Berlusconi, horses head cocktails, a gondola-shaped bar and the Eurovision Song Contest private karaoke room. Alongside the unusual theme, Bunga Bunga also offers a fantastic private hire room, L’Osservatorio, with its own Martini bar and stunning views of the city. Oh – we almost forgot to mention The Sistine Stairway…

The Wapping Project

Located in an old hydraulic power station, The Wapping Project changes constantly. The large exhibition space at the back of the restaurant houses a new exhibition or installation at least once a month, making it an always interesting and sometimes quite spooky place to enjoy a meal with friends. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner from Monday to Friday, brunch, lunch and dinner on Saturday and brunch and lunch on Sunday. The menu changes daily; with sample dishes including baked figs, sobrasada-filled partridge, mushroom sformato and venison pie.

Described as a bar, cabaret and restaurant hybrid, Circus on Covent Garden certainly lives up to its name. Impromptu entertainers appear throughout the evening to wow diners with their varied acts. Each night’s performances are kept top secret until their arrival in the dining room; previous acts have included fire-eating ballerinas, acrobats swinging from the ceiling and much more. Restaurants don’t come more weird and wonderful than Circus! If the show alone isn’t enough to tempt you along to Circus, the Pan-Asian menu includes such delights as yellow tail sashimi, blow-torched salmon ngiri and prawn & chive dumplings.

It’s all well and good having a quirky theme but Archipelago goes one step further with its very unusual menu. Sit amongst golden Buddhas, dwarf palm trees and peacock feathers as you tuck into dishes including crocodile, wildebeest, kangaroo, zebra and even locusts, crickets and scorpions. Less adventurous eaters need not avoid the wondrous place, as more traditional and vegetarian options are also available.
