Global James Bond Day
Wherever you are in the world, we are fairly certain you would be hard pressed to find anyone who hasn’t seen at least one James Bond film. The charismatic spy has achieved fame the world over, so much so that a global celebration day has been announced in recognition of the series’ 50th anniversary.
5th October 2012 has been declared as Global James Bond Day and is set to be marked with numerous themed events taking place worldwide. Major film studios are amongst those planning to celebrate the occasion, with Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Passion Pictures and Red Box films collaborating to create a brand new feature documentary, Everything or Nothing: The Untold Story of 007, which is due to be unveiled on or around October 5th.
Other celebrations include a live global online and live charity auction organised by Christie’s in London, a film retrospective in the Museum of Modern Art in New York and a Music of Bond night in Los Angeles, which will be hosted by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science. Toronto International Film Festival will also launch the feature Designing 007: 50 years of James Bond style on 26th October. This exhibition, which recently finished at the Barbican in London, will run until 20th January 2013. More events are expected to be announced on 007.com and Facebook before the big day.
Of course, you don’t have to attend any of these events to celebrate the occasion; there will be plenty of opportunity to buy special edition and themed merchandise too. A Bond 50 Blu-Ray tour has recently kicked off in Scotland and is travelling to various UK locations shown and used in the filming of the movies, over a period of 7 days. The actual Blu-Ray will be released for sale shortly before Skyfall hits the cinemas in October. James Bond: 50 Years of Movie Posters book is now available in shops and online, featuring the posters from each of the iconic films as well as a commentary from Skyfall and Quantum of Solace production designer, Dennis Gassner.
Whatever you are doing to celebrate Global James Bond Day, don’t forget that the saga doesn’t end there. The 23rd Bond film, Skyfall, will hit cinemas worldwide on October 26th.
