How to avoid half-term battles
As any parent will confirm, school holidays can be far more stressful than the word “holiday” would suggest. As much as we all love our kids and want to spend quality time with them, extended periods of time with no routine and October weather can be a sure-fire recipe for disaster. When it comes to children, entertainment is the key to keeping the peace. Here are a few ideas of how to keep your brood happy this half-term.
Despite the way children love to moan about school work and how they hate learning, hands-on science always seems to go down a treat. Science Museum Live has recently completed a very successful UK tour and the crew are now preparing to set up in the Science Museum’s new theatre space for half-term. If your children are between 7 and 11, this event will be well worth a visit. The live experiments and demonstrations are sure to keep them amused for at least one day out of the break. A downloadable activity pack is available so you can see what will be in store. Apart from the show, the Science Museum itself is packed full of attractions they will love to discover. Tickets for Science Museum Live cost £12 per adult, £9.50 per child and £35 for a family of two children and two adults.
Half term at the Museum of London
The Museum of London can teach your children all they need to know about the city and its rich history. Why not visit this museum and encourage your offspring to take part in the interactive workshops which will be running at both the main site and the Docklands museum? Some of the events include creating your own digital book, spooky stories, acting out Oliver Twist and designing your own flying machine. Some workshops are ticketed and full information can be found online. Half term workshops on both sites will run from 27th October until 4th November.
The Ice Age films have been a huge hit with children and adults alike since the first one was released a decade ago. Manny, Sid, Scrat and their pals haven’t lost any of their entertainment value over the past ten years but they have added to their repertoire. If you have already seen all four Ice Age films and your children still want more, you can make that particular dream come true. All of the favourite characters have been brought to life for this live show and the 3.6 metre tall and 4.2 metre long Manny is sure to make an impression. If you would like to treat the younger members of your family to a live show at half term, Ice Age Live will be in Wembley Arena from 1st -3rd November. Tickets cost from £20 – £70 per person.
