I love My Job As A Fixer!
Sometimes it can be exhausting: 50 hours so far this week and it’s only Friday morning with a pile of paperwork that would make me wince on a sunny summer’s day never mind a rainy day in November. Yet I’m happy and raring to go.
What’s in that pile of paperwork that makes me feel this way?
One financial year’s worth of one client’s 5 bank accounts and credit card statements to work out how much US money withdrawn in the UK.
A very long list of lovely goodies from a bathroom store that a client wants to buy for his refurbishment…I have to negotiate with the store to get the goods delivered within 2 weeks not the 4-6 they told the client.
A wodge of printouts almost an inch high to be typed up, client’s handwritten squiggles translated, edited, reformatted and printed.
A battle waiting to happen with an insurance company who seem to think getting the client’s goods out of storage is not their responsibility even though they’re the ones who put the goods into storage. Oh how I wish I could name and shame!
Receipt for client’s watch repair – chase the company to see if it’s ready for collection yet.
Request to find an American not British or European Wii Fit suitable for Brazil.
I bet you’re thinking that none of those tasks look as glamorous as you’d expected for a lifestyle management, concierge company. Well, sometimes they’re not although buying presents in Selfridges last week for a client was great!
So why do I love being a stress taker-onerer (not exactly an English word but I have decided I like it)?
Because I’ve discovered that helping people gives me a real buzz. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a favourite watch that finally has a replacement matching strap or a spreadsheet collating ATM transactions (which I have to admit isn’t the most thrilling job I’ve ever done), the pleased look on the client’s face when their request is done is wonderful. I know that by the end of today I am going to have some very happy clients, what more could I ask for!
… a glass of wine this evening and a lie in tomorrow …
Bliss!
