October Pop-Ups – Be There or Be Square

BY cushion the impact

It’s that time again; the start of a new month means the advent of a host of brand-new pop-ups all over London. While we would love to eat out every night and try all of them, it’s not possible (for most of us). If you try just one of October’s temporary bars and restaurants, make it one of these.

Charlie Stocker at Jimmy’s

Jimmy’s in Clapham is an underground pop-up space, located in the basement of DVine Wines. A series of pop-up restaurants have made the venue their home over the past couple of months and on Friday 25th October, Charlie Stocker will be taking his turn. The Masterchef – The Professionals contestant will cook for just twenty-six people, serving slow-cooked hen’s egg, smoked macaroni, truffles, walnut potato puree, smoked pork belly, beetroot caramel and a variety of other delights. To book your ticket, email charlies@charliestocker.com.

Saigon StrEat

Every Saturday night, The Café of Good Hope is home to some fantastically authentic Vietnamese cuisine. No need to book, just show up between 6pm and 10.30pm to get your hands on fresh, delicious street food.  The menu changes constantly but if tasty food created using incredibly fresh ingredients is what you are after; Saigon StrEat is where you should be. If Saturday nights don’t suit you, the pop-up is also appearing at The Plum Tree Café in Greenwich on Thursdays and Fridays.

Vestal Voyages

Part of London Cocktail Week, Vestal Voyages invites guests to take their place on a fifty-foot canal boat and enjoy a tipple or two on board the world’s first ever floating pop-up bar. The one hour long cruise along the Regents Canal sets off from Kings Cross at various times throughout the evening until 13th October. Guests can indulge in two cocktails each, created from various ingredients in the Vestal vodka collection, while sailing through the longest canal tunnel in London, all the way to Islington. Tickets are now available, priced at £25 per person. If you would like to take part in a Vestal Voyage, book now – there are only twelve places per sailing. Email captain@vestalvodka.com to book.

The Dolls House

This latest offering from the Dead Dolls Club is absolutely amazing. Located in a disused warehouse in Hoxton, The Dolls House is three floors of drinking, dancing and great company. Designed, in the Dead Dolls Club’s own words, for those who want to go out in Hoxton without the Hoxton-ness, The Dolls House is strictly members-only. However, to become a member, all you need to do is act like a good friend. Bring a gift for the hosts, sign your membership card and take yourself off to the bar and kitchen in The Parlour, enjoy a private gathering in The Drawing Room, refuel in The Dining Room, partake of a waltz or two in The Ballroom and then lounge with a cocktail on The Terrace. Possibly the most interesting doll’s house we’ve come across…
