Sometimes, what starts out as a quick drink with a friend or two turns into the best night out you’ve ever had, and running for the last train becomes very unappealing. For those times when you don’t want to leave the pub early, and a taxi home is out of the question, there are pubs and restaurants which offer rooms for the night. Although we know that the best nights out are often unplanned, this list, and a little foresight, may come in very handy.
Located just minutes away from Oxford Street and Marble Arch, The Grazing Goat public house on New Quebec Street has eight bedrooms. In fact, this particular establishment has it all; a cosy pub, great food (try their Sunday roasts, delicious) and a place to stay. Each of the rooms in The Grazing Goat feature king size beds, Wi-Fi, iPod docking stations and a great view. A standard room is priced at £195 per night.

The six bedrooms at the Fox & Anchor in Clerkenwell have been designed to bring back the tradition of the great British inn. The pub itself features three cosy snugs where groups of friends can enjoy a night together away from the crowds, a menu serving simple yet delicious British food and a selection of the finest ales, wines and spirits. The rooms: The Market Suite, St Paul’s, St Bart’s, The Barbican, Charterhouse and Smithfield, all have their own signature style, with an overnight stay costing from £185 per night.

Not only does Gordon Ramsay’s York & Albany offer the excellent food you would expect from the celebrity chef’s restaurants, it also houses nine bedrooms. The townhouse has a less formal atmosphere than some London restaurants and the bar offers cocktail master classes as well as a great location for a quiet drink. Each of the nine bedrooms has been individually styled while retaining original character and antiques. Prices start from £140 per night.

The Wensleydale Heifer, Yorkshire
While a trip to Yorkshire isn’t likely to be a spur of the moment decision, The Wensleydale Heifer will make a night or two up North very appealing indeed. As well as serving award-winning food, this restaurant with rooms offers a variety of fantastically themed rooms. Choose from the Chocolate room, with a hydro spa bath, walk-in shower and as much chocolate as you can eat (we might book it out permanently); the cow-themed Heifer room; the Malt Whisky room with a complimentary shot of malt or A Night at the Movies, complete with Hollywood memorabilia, to name just a few. A former hunting lodge, The Devonshire Arms provides the perfect base for a relaxing break in Somerset. The restaurant serves locally-sourced food and the bar is popular with the locals, which is surely a good sign. Relax after your meal, enjoying the view of the picturesque village green and church before retiring to one of the nine bedrooms. Four-poster beds, large free-standing baths and stunning views are available. Room rates start at £87.50 per night.

The Glenuig Inn, Inverness-shire
If you want to enjoy beautiful Scottish countryside, kayak with basking sharks and dolphins, do a spot of climbing or explore nearby Fort William, The Glenuig Inn could be the perfect place to stay. The inn has six en-suite bedrooms accommodating between four and six people each and a bunkhouse, which houses 9 single beds, availably individually or as a group booking.
