September popups in London

BY Sue Williamson

You know the drill by now – we publish a blog once a month sharing our pick of the popups in London and you make the most of it by visiting some.

We’re a little later than usual this month but worry not, here’s the cushion the impact guide to popups in London this September.

If you have a personal recommendation to add to the list, do let us know in the comments below.

Conflict Café

Peacebuilding NGO, International Alert, are back with their harmony-inspiring pop-up. This year’s four-week residency at House of Vans features dishes from Syria, the Middle East, Nepal, Columbia and Armenia & Turkey. The aim of the event is to get people breaking bread and conversing, so why not join in? Tickets for all sittings are available here.

The Bayou Banquet

Slapyapapa are taking over The Vaults from 16th-27th September for their very own Bayou Banquet. The event will include live blues, funk, soul and jazz performances, expertly created cocktails and, of course, a range of New Orleans fare prepared by a Michelin trained chef. Supper clubs, brunches and an art exhibition – which will you choose?

Hammerschlagen

This is most definitely a unique popup experience. Running at The Dot throughout September, the premise behind Hammerschlagen is quite eccentric. There are a variety of events planned during the residency, but we love the special quirk added to proceedings – pay 50p for a nail, pick up a hammer and challenge the bartender to see who can hammer their nail into a tree trunk in the fewest blows. Winning will get you a discounted bar tab.

Pancakes & Booze Art Show

If you’d like to take in an art show with a difference, Pancakes & Booze is the place to be this month. On 24th September, Studio Spaces E1 will host works from more than 50 emerging artists, accompanied by all you can eat pancakes. Featuring paintings, mixed media, graffiti, sculpture and live body painting, the event is strictly 18+

Shakespeare in Shoreditch Festival

Did you know Shakespeare had a connection to Shoreditch? There’s a whole festival dedicated to it and, after a sell-out 2014, it’s back from 30th September – 10th October at the Rose Lipman Building. Workshops, discussions, film screenings and the chance to pen your own Shakespeare-inspired works feature on the packed schedule, with tickets for each on sale now.
