September’s London Pop-ups – Our Top Picks

BY cushion the impact

September is a time for change – a new school year, the end of the summer and time to try something new by visiting one (or more) of the fantastic pop-up bars, restaurants and events happening over the next few weeks. Break out of your comfort zone, leave that familiar local and experience something completely different.  You won’t regret it.

Hennessy Clubhouse

The Upstairs Bar at Callooh Callay has been home to a number of pop-ups in 2013 and the fifth instalment is now in full swing. Based on the games room at the Hennessy family home, the Hennessy Clubhouse is a den of decadence, fine Cognac and mouth-watering French food.  Dust off your smoking jacket, smooth your moustache and set off towards the moules frites, confit of duck, assiette de fromages and multiple Hennessy-based cocktails. The Hennessy Clubhouse will be open from Tuesday to Saturday until 28th September.

Kitchen Theory Elements

House of Wolf in Islington has featured quite regularly in our pop-up and restaurant blogs recently and they are back again due to the arrival of Kitchen Theory Elements. Running on 10th September, 1st October and 29th October, this multi-sensory dining experience offers an eight-course menu created using the finest seasonal ingredients. The menu comprises two dishes for each of the elements – air, water, fire and earth.  Dishes included in the £40 per head event include smoked mushroom porridge, Spanish seafood soup, lemon mousse with olive and soy bean mousse with beef and black garlic. To book your place, telephone House of Wolf or email reservations@houseofwolf.co.uk

Indie Food Night at Greenwich Market

On 12th September, something very special will be coming to Greenwich Market; the first ever Great Greenwich Burger Off.  While we suspect Paul Hollywood and Mary Berry won’t have anything to do with this particular event, there will be plenty of food, plenty of beer and twenty-five stalls packed full of delicious artisanal produce. Organisers, Meantime Brewing, hope to make this into an annual event, so why not pop along and stake your claim as a guest at the inaugural Indie Food Night?

Mile High: Mozambique

Retro airline-themed pop-up, Mile High, is coming back for one more culinary adventure before jetting off into the sunset. This time round, diners at Mile High will be treated to a selection of dished originating in Mozambique, including prawns marinated in fresh coconut, red chillies, lime and peanuts, charcoal grilled sardines with fried cassava and tomato salsa and spatchcock poussin with coriander pilaf.  The next Mile High events will take place from 18th-21st September and 25th-28th September. Book now to avoid missing the flight.
