Tchaikovsky Gala in aid of Victim Support
Victim Support is a national charity offering support to victims of crime as well as witnesses and their friends and family. The charity’s services are available to anyone in England and Wales who has been affected by crime. As well as helping individuals, Victim Support run the Witness Service in every court and also campaign for changes for the benefit of those they support.
Of course, to enable the charity and their 7,000 volunteers to continue with their incredible work, they need funding. On 22 November 2012, Victim Support will be holding a Tchaikovsky Gala in the Barbican, with the aim of raising £200,000 to help the 1.5 million victims and witnesses who approach the charity each year. The evening will include excerpts from Swan Lake, The Nutcracker, Sleeping Beauty and Eugene Onegin, performed by Christopher Ventris, Emma Gardner, Wendy Dawn Thomson and Pauls Putnins. The performance will be entirely in English.
Christopher Ventris’ appearance at the event is particularly exciting as he is widely considered to be one of the great Opera singers of his generation. Christopher has recently played Tannhauser at the Opera Bastille in Paris and has been chosen to sing Parsifal with the Berlin Opera in 2015.
The first half of the Gala will see Sue Perkins, winner of BBC 2’s Maestro competition, conducting the Orion Symphony Orchestra through Tchaikovsky’s Ballet music, while the second half will feature Eugene Onegin, with Toby Purser conducting.
The Gala will begin at 7.30pm on 22 November 2012. Tickets range from £20 to £75 and are available from the Barbican box office on 020 7638 8891.
