Love it or loathe it (or a bit of both, depending on how the day has been), the Tube is an integral part of London life and we probably couldn’t function without it. According to TfL, around 1.3 billion people use the service every year, which may account for the sheer bizarreness of some of the items that can be found in lost property. With that many people passing through, there’s bound to be someone carrying something odd…
For a little light relief this morning, here are a few of the most peculiar forgotten items discovered on the Tube.
- False teeth
- Wedding dresses
- Breast implants
- A stuffed puffer fish
- A life-sized Spiderman toy
- A lollipop lady/man’s lollipop
- A gorilla costume sporting a fetching Hawaiian shirt
- Prosthetic limbs
- A coffin, assumed to be a theatre prop
- A stuffed eagle
- A jar of bull sperm
- A park bench
- A container holding three dead bats
- A bag containing two human skulls
Of course, there are also plenty of normal, everyday items being left behind too:
- 90,000 pairs of gloves in 1954
- Almost 11,000 umbrellas in 2014 (there have been thousands every year, it’s one thing that’s never changed)
- 20,000 mobile phones in 2014
