Top 10 Tips: How to enjoy London for free
- Visit a museum. London has a wealth of museums, the majority of which are free to enter. You can see a life sized model of a Blue Whale at the Natural History Museum, enjoy the gardens at the Horniman Museum or discover the history of the capital at the Museum of London.
- Visit an art gallery. Whether you’re into modern art or something more traditional, London’s art galleries will have something to offer you. The Tate is for lovers of all things modern and the National Gallery caters for the more classic taste. Don’t forget many of the museums have late nights which are often quieter than at the weekends.
- Head down to Speaker’s Corner. Every Sunday Hyde Park allows you to stand on the soap box and voice your opinions. Head down to the corner of Park Lane/Cumberland Gate and listen to what others have to say or if you’re feeling brave, have a go yourself! No topic is off limits but beware of hecklers.
- Street performance. Covent Garden and the South Bank are awash with street performers for your entertainment. Dancers, musicians and living statues are just some of the things you can expect to see.
- Go green. You may be surprised by how much green space London has. Hyde Park, Regent’s Park and St James’s Park are all located in Central London and are perfect for a day sunbathing, a bike ride or just an afternoon stroll.
- Visit St Paul’s Cathedral. St Paul’s Cathedral is open to worshippers and the general public. Head up to the very top of the cathedral for a fantastic view of the city.
- Browse around a market. Covent Garden, Camden and Greenwich are some of the most famous markets in London. If you are more of a foodie head down to Borough market to sample some of the finest foods the capital has to offer.
- Go celeb spotting. Hundreds of famous faces (and the rest of their bodies) live and work in London so spotting some shouldn’t be too difficult. The King’s Road in Chelsea and Primrose Hill near Camden are two of the best celeb hotspots.
- Visit a city farm. Kentish Town is just one of the city farms in the capital. It is home to a variety of animals and you can often watch them being fed. You might even get to have a go yourself! See the full list of city farms here.
- Watch a TV show being filmed. ITV, BBC, Sky and Channel 4 often need audience members for their television shows. Tickets can be booked for free from sites such as Applause Store and you might even see yourself on television!
