Top of the Pops – London’s August Pop-up Bars and Restaurants

While we can’t quite believe that another month has passed already, we are delighted that it means we get to bring you a whole new selection of pop-ups. The phrase “pop-up” may be starting to grate on some, but we are definitely not included in that group – we enjoy trying new things and this is the perfect way to do it. If you have tried any of these pop-ups, or others we haven’t had space to include, and would like to share your experience, we’d love to hear from you so please add a comment to this blog.

Jamaica Jamaica

The Jam Tree is bringing a taste of Jamaica to Chelsea and Clapham for two weeks this month, offering fourteen full days of music, culture and Jamaican food to visitors. From Tuesday 6th until Tuesday 20th August, both branches will be channelling the core Jamaican elements of Reggae, jerk and rum cocktails in what will hopefully continue to be a sun-soaked London.  The Caribbean event takes place al fresco, of course. Dishes served will include fried snapper escovitch with steamed cabbage, sweet potato puree, rice and peas, rum glazed sweet potato, fried plantains and curried goat with rice and peas.

London Craft Beer Festival

Possibly the ultimate pop-up event for those keen on craft beers, the Festival will run in The Oval from 16th-18th August. If you decide to visit the Festival, your £35 ticket will not only get you in the door, it will also cover a sample beer from every single stand, a free branded glass and access to an endless stream of knowledge from the brewers. A selection of delicious food will also be available from The Mezzanine, Forza Win and CUTS on the terrace, Gelupo gelato experts and more. Tickets can be purchased from the London Craft Beer Festival website.

This is a pop-up bar with a difference – it’s alcohol-free. The absence of alcohol doesn’t mean an absence of fun, Redemption’s takeover of the rooftop of Netil House in Bethnal Green has proven popular since it opened in late July. Redemption is open on Sundays from now until 22nd September, providing “laidback tunes, nutritious fare, mocktails and guilt-free desserts” to those wishing to socialise without risking a Monday morning hangover. They really mean the guilt-free too; Redemption operate a zero waste policy, promise to have a zero or positive environmental footprint, offer jobs to people who need them and also support addiction charities. All that AND it’s a great evening out.

The Gin Shed

Now this sounds like a shed we could get on with! From 5pm to 10pm every Saturday, gin aficionados can make their way to Skyroom to take part in this celebration of all things gin. From interactive gin workshops to live acoustic music, taking in a botanical drinks lab on the way and a new guest chef every week, you won’t find a more gin-focused night out anywhere in London. Fact. The team at The Gin Shed will use all manner of home-grown and foraged ingredients to create infusions, tonics, herb cocktails and more. This certainly sounds like a recipe for an unforgettable experience.
