Where to go on Bonfire Night
“Remember, remember the fifth of November, Gunpowder, treason and plot, we see no reason, why gunpowder treason, Should ever be forgot!” This famous rhyme relates to the story of Guy Fawkes and the celebration of Bonfire Night. Next week will see numerous bonfires, fireworks displays and parties throughout the UK; here are a few of the major events in London.
Battersea Park Fireworks: London Celebrates
Be sure to book your ticket in advance as none will be sold on the gate after 3pm on the day. The earlier you book, the bigger the discount you can get too: tickets cost £6.50 until 28th October, £8 until 2nd November and £10 thereafter. Gates open at 6pm, with the show starting at 8pm. Tickets can be purchased online, at the Battersea Park Millennium Arena, Pump House Gallery, at each of the ECSI mobile catering units in the Park or by telephoning 020 8871 8677. Visitors to the display are in for a treat as it has been designed by Pain Fireworks, who have previously worked with Disney and the Thames Festival. Make sure to stock up on your roasted chestnuts and mulled wine in plenty of time for the show starting!
Southwark Park’s fireworks display will take place on Bonfire Night itself, gates open at 6pm and the free display will run from 7pm. Hot food and drinks will be on offer within the park.
Brent Celebrates Firework Night
Anyone in the Brent area can enjoy a funfair and laser show alongside their fireworks at this free event organised by Brent Council. Gates open at 7pm and the display starts at 8.30. The event will close at 9.30pm.
Lego Monster Fighter Fireworks
If you want to fit in a last minute visit to Legoland in Windsor before the season ends, why not combine it with Bonfire Night and take in the Brick or Treat celebrations? As well as games and family fun throughout the park, Lego Monster Fighters will be firing Lego brick fireworks into the air in 3D. Tickets are now available for the 28th and 29th October, as well as 2nd-4th November. The theme park’s rides will also stay open late so you can enjoy them in the dark for an extra thrill! Lego building challenges, dancing, singing and monster mash fun for all the family.
Meadowbank Fireworks, Edinburgh
Edinburgh’s biggest fireworks display can be found in the grounds of Meadowbank Sports Centre on 5th November. This display has become somewhat of a tradition in Edinburgh and visitors will be able to enjoy pre-show entertainment from local DJ, Big Al. Entertainment starts at 6.30pm, with the display scheduled for 7.30pm. This year’s theme is Disney and the organisers expect it to be sold out, so book your ticket now if you plan to attend. Tickets cost £6 each and can be purchased online or by telephoning 0844 8700 887.
Residents of Glasgow will no doubt already know that Glasgow Green is the place to be for the best fireworks display. The annual spectacular will return on Monday 5th November, with celebrations kicking off at 4pm. DJs Knoxy and Romeo will be providing the on-site entertainment, alongside a funfair and various catering stalls. Onsite catering will operate from 4pm until 9pm; the funfair will open from 5.30pm until 9.30pm; Knoxy and Romeo will be on stage from 6.30pm and the fireworks themselves are set to start at 7.30pm.
Don’t worry if none of these displays are local to you, there are far too many for us to mention! Many councils are running their own fireworks display, either on Bonfire Night itself or on Saturday 3rd, with details available on their websites.
