Top 10 Tips – Health & Lifestyle

BY cushion the impact

1.      Be optimistic. Adopt a positive outlook. Make a new start; set yourself achievable physical goals and plan to reach them in simple steps. A realistic goal is more effective than attempting the impossible.

2.      Learn to love fruit and vegetables. They are nature’s gift to help reduce heart disease, cancer and diabetes, as well as making your skin look great. Why not try some vegetarian recipes to boost your intake of vegetables?

3.      Get breathless more often. Try a brisk walk in your lunch hour, a swim before work or a spot of tennis will do wonders for your energy levels, bones and outlook on life. Find new ways to keep fit.

4.      Get enough sleep. It’s important to get the amount that’s right for you. It primes the immune system, boosts energy levels and makes those bags under your eyes disappear.

5.      Laugh. It increases the blood flow to the heart, jogs the muscles, takes away frown lines, but best of all, it makes you feel good!

6.      Have 1 hour of totally uninterrupted conversation with your partner or best friend. Keep those channels of communication open, and have time specifically for you and that special person in your life.

7.      Get outside. Vitamin D3 is produced in skin exposed to sunlight and, lets face it, the summer is never long enough in the UK, so make the most of it! If it’s sunny, get out there – if its overcast, still get out there, if it’s raining, take an umbrella. As Billy Connolly says, there’s no such thing as bad weather… just the wrong clothing!

8.      Make your bedroom a peaceful haven. Move out the TV and move in your iPod. Clear the chair you use to drop everything on to and invest in a comfy cushion or fleece blanket (try these lovely Welsh blankets http://www.welshblankets.co.uk/index.php) so you can settle there to read or relax. Have good quality curtains or blinds that keep the light out at night.

9.      Detox your calendar If you’re constantly running around, you’re going to feel the strain. Resist pressure to attend everything you’re invited to – everyone understands if you say ‘no’ now and again. Better to do less and enjoy it more.

10.  Detox your mind Last but certainly not least, give your busy brain a clear-out. Try meditation and yoga to free your mind of anxiety and niggles, delegate more at work if you are able to and don’t let yourself become consumed by negative emotions – these are the most draining of all. Talk about your problems or write them down and then let them go.
